Masonry experts say they are getting a lot of calls from people with cracks in their houses after Saturday’s earthquake.
The damage in the metro can be spotted in the cracks to brick veneer homes.
“You know the old ice trays they bend and the ice breaks out, same thing with this stuff when it moves fast,” said Kevin Hill with Top Dawg Masonry.
Hill, who News 9 found with favorable reviews on Angie’s List, said he received eight calls from people needing inspections or repairs on Tuesday.
Hill said it’s important to get the even the smallest cracks fixed immediately, before moisture makes the openings bigger and causes more serious problems and possibly mold issues.
Repairs mean restacking brick using new strong concrete mortar. Hills said a 10 feet by 10 feet portion of cracked wall can run up to hundreds of dollars to fix. He added that the repair won’t even be noticeable when complete.
Although he doesn’t recommend it, Hill said silicone caulking can be used as a temporary fix for those not wanting to spend the money or not caring if the filled crack is noticeable.
