Tulsa police arrested a man they say rammed a police car before leading officers on a chase through town. TPD says the chase ended at the Roadway Inn and Suites with Manuel Morales being arrested.
News On 6 has exclusive video as police chased after the suspect.
It started when someone reported a car near 51st and Memorial that wasn't moving.
Officers say they approached the car and found Morales slumped over the wheel. When they tapped on the driver's side windy, he ignored their commands to shut off the vehicle and instead drank from a can of Coors Light, according to an arrest report.
The arresting officer said Morales then made a hand gesture and started ramming the police cruiser with his vehicle. The car took off - heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of 51st Street. He went up to 80 mph in the wrong lane driving on bare rims, police said.
Police say the chase ended after 3 a.m., when officers cornered Morales at the hotel at Interstate 44 and Highway 169.
"He refused to comply with commands, coming out of the vehicle for a few moments. After a while, he got out, became verbally abusive in the parking lot toward officers," said Sergeant Darren Bristow, Tulsa Police Department.
Bristow said a K-9 officer helped in taking Morales into custody.
"K-9 got out, upon scene, the dog started barking at him. I believe that gave him some incentive to come out and come back toward the officers," Bristow said.
The arrest report states he smelled strongly of alcohol, staggered and had slurred speech.
Morales, 29, booked into Tulsa County jail on complaints of driving under the influence, transporting an open container, consuming/inhaling intoxicants in a public place, eluding police, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no driver's license or insurance, obstructing an officer and malicious injury to property.
