Tulsa city leaders are holding a downtown rally Thursday supporting public school teachers.

A potential teacher walkout is coming in 18 days, if state lawmakers cant pass a pay raise and funding package for public school teachers.

The Tulsa rally starts at noon and will be held 3rd and Main.

Organizers say its purpose is to call on the Legislature to put together a funding package and prevent a teacher walkout.

Mayor GT Bynum, TPS School Board Member Suzanne Schreiber, businessman Gordy Guest and a parent are among the speakers.

Also speaking is Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin.

"I think that's the key piece for many of us in the social service sector or even from a philanthropic or governmental sector, is that we look at these working families and they're going to have to face the decision-the unenviable decision- to either not go to work or stay home with their kids," said Phil Lakin.

Again, the rally begins at noon and is expected to run until 3 p.m.
