After an early season meeting was rained out, ORU baseball will finally host Oklahoma State at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
It's a matchup of teams in similar spots, with both Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts conference leaders and playing well heading into the postseason.
For the Golden Eagles, it was a matter of getting all phases of the game playing well at the same time.
"Now, it's getting to the point where, again, you can see us kind of playing that complimentary baseball that we talk about," said ORU Head Coach Ryan Folmar.
ORU has struggled to gain traction this season, going 11-and-9 in March and losing four of their first five in April. But after a lopsided loss to Oklahoma on April 11, things seemed to turn around, and they've won 9 of their last 10.
"We had a player meeting where we just talked and we were like, ‘hey, ORU's got a history and we've got to honor them and play the way we know how,’" stated second baseman Nick Roark.
"I think we're starting to get more comfortable with each other,” said third baseman Cal Hernandez. “I think it took a little bit longer than we thought it was going to be, but I think it's starting to click right now. I think we're starting to trust each other more."
Tonight's matchup is key for both teams as they prepare for postseason.
And OSU Head Coach Josh Holliday knows J.L. Johnson is never an easy place to play.
"We play them, they're really good. We play a lot of games against those guys, we respect them,” said Holliday. “Another important ballgame for us.”
