If things are as pleasant this fall for the Cowboys as the weather was for the annual media golf outing then the Cowboys will no doubt exceed expectations by about a mile. They'll have some changes, of course a new quarterback with Mason Rudolph gone, and they also have a new defensive coordinator. Jim Knowles, who brings in the 4-2-5 scheme, and Knowles says that even though he's a veteran he's excited about this opportunity, literally on the edge of his seat.
"All your senses, I mean everything, you're sitting on the front half of your seat all the time," Knowles said. "You're constantly thinking because you're pushing the edge, you're pushing the limit, you're getting out of your comfort zone and you're going someplace new. I mean not only someplace new, but someplace that's going to challenge you."
When it comes to the quarterbacks Taylor Cornelius goes into camp as the starter, but Spencer Sanders and Dru Brown will fight for that job as well, and Mike Yurcich, the offensive coordinator says communication with the newcomers will be the biggest key at the beginning.
"I think that over the years the thing that as a coach I've learned more than anything is to listen a little bit more and try to get in tune to how a young man learns, and to try to hit him from different angles and see which angle is best for him to, well that's the way he learns a little bit better," Yurcich said.
OSU players report to Stillwater on campus on Wednesday, practice begins on Thursday and the media will have a chance to catch up with some of them at the annual media day on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.
