The Tulsa Public School Board is set to vote to rename Lee School at its board meeting Monday night. The name change has been up for debate for several months now.

Earlier this year, the Tulsa School Board voted to change the name then backtracked on their decision. The Ad-Hoc Committee then considered more than 100 potential names and finally recommended the name Council Oak Elementary to the board.

At their last board meeting on August 6th, the board heard from several parents, teachers and community members about the name choice and the comments were very split. Some people were for Council Oak and others still want the name to remain Lee School.

The board will finally vote on whether to change the name of Lee School to Council Oak at Monday’s meeting. If they change the name, it will go into effect at the end of the meeting.

Tulsa Public Schools said the goal is to have a new name by the time school starts Wednesday.

News On 6’s Amy Kauffman is at the meeting and will have an update at 9 and 10.
