Mid America Industrial Park plans to build a new subdivision and shopping area in Pryor. The parks’ leaders believe the new homes will help draw new business.

The park brings in workers from all over, but mainly Pryor, and soon they’ll have the option of living and shopping right across the road from where they work.

On Thursday, the park broke ground on a new development, they’re calling “the district”. It’s a project with 100 new houses, a 100 unit apartment complex, and a shopping area. The first tenant there is Red Crown Credit Union. The neighborhood will be built around ten acres of parks connected through walking and biking trails.

“The first phase of this is using about 60 of those acres and as we fill up the retail, the apartments and the housing then we’ll immediately starting developing the other acres to meet demand,” said Mid America Chief Administrative Officer David Stewart.

Mid America expects construction to take two years and start right away. “The district” is part of a much larger plan to attract new employers to the park and recruit new employees to the area to work there.

"Experts will tell you the 'sense of place' is now more important than ever as a key to success," Stewart said.

Officials with the park believe when complete, the project will generate 2,000 jobs and create 3,000,000 feet of new industrial space with more than $80 million in annual wages for workers.
