Tulsa Police are looking for the man who stole an SUV outside a daycare center while officers say a 2-year-old boy was in the backseat.

Police said it didn’t take long to find the vehicle and the boy safely at the Regency Point Apartments - 13 minutes – but, they said it was something that could have been avoided.

They said a woman was dropping her 9-month-old baby off at KinderCare when a man took off in her Chevy Traverse with her 2-year-old son sitting in the back seat.

They found the vehicle at the apartment complex less than a half-mile down the road.

Sergeant John Adams said the child was in good spirits.

"He has no clue that anything happened at all, just that he went for a ride, so he's very happy," Adams said.

Police are trying to find surveillance video showing what happened so they can have a good description of the man who stole the vehicle.

They said the child's mother could face neglect charges, but that has not been determined. Detectives want to remind parents that it's illegal to leave your child unattended in a vehicle.

"'I just ran inside for a moment.' That's all it takes, is a moment for you to lose your child. And you lose a child, you may not get your child back," Adams said.

Detectives said this is the second incident like this they've worked in the past couple of weeks.
