Claremore Police Arrest Suspect After Second Standoff

News On 6 learning new details about the moments leading up to a police standoff in Claremore. Police said they spent more than 15 hours over several days trying to get John Good into custody.

Claremore Police said the only reason they went to the house in the first place was because they were hearing reports the suspect, John Good, was attacking his daughter's boyfriend with a pipe.

Police say it took more than 15 hours, several agencies, and a lot of patience to get John Good into custody.

"If he would have come out of the house there wouldn't be certain holes in his house, windows would still be up. That is not us but Mr. Good; he didn't comply," said Claremore Police Deputy Chief Steve Cox.

An affidavit said the first standoff on Wednesday started after police responded to a report that Good pulled a pipe from his jacket and began swinging it at his daughter's boyfriend. After countless attempts to get Good to walk out of the house on his own police say they ripped a hole into the attic where they believed Good was hiding and fired pepper balls inside, but after six hours of hard work, Good got away.

"Everything that occurred that we did was because of Mr. Good's decisions," said Cox.

The next day, after nine hours of searching, Cox says officers got a tip Good was back at the house but once again he wouldn't come out.

"We moved around the house picked some different windows ... introduced some more gas. This is all over hours. This is a very slow process," said Cox.

Several broken windows and four hours later, Good was finally in handcuffs. Officers say it took a team of firefighters and Rogers County Deputies working together with Claremore Police to make the arrest happen.

"Especially from what we know about him we had to prepare for the worst case scenario and hope for the best and that is what we did and it worked out pretty much the best way," said Cox.
