The Oklahoma State Cowboys got the 2013 season off to a good start with a 21-3 victory against Mississippi State on Saturday in Houston. Here are some of the numbers and stats that stick out from the Pokes' win:
1 – The number of interceptions for senior corner Justin Gilbert on Saturday. He didn't record a single pick in 2012.
0 – Points allowed by the OSU defense after the opening drive in a dominating performance.
35,874 – The official attendance at Reliant Stadium. Surely not what the sponsors had in mind.
39 – Receiving yards by Josh Stewart, somehow leading the Cowboys on Saturday.
13 – The number of victories for the Cowboys in their past 14 nonconference games.
2 – How many series' Clint Chelf played after earning the start before relinquishing quarterbacking duties to J.W. Walsh.
10 – Total yards gained by MSU in the third quarter.
200 – Yards for OSU in the third quarter.
2007 – The last time a quarterback ran for 100 yards at OSU when Zac Robinson had 144 against Baylor. Walsh had 125 on 9.6 yards per carry and a touchdown.
102 – Walsh wasn't the only Cowboy to get things going on the ground. Senior Jeremy Smith had 102 yards and two touchdowns on 6.8 yards per carry.
45.2 – Average yards per punt for Cowboy newcomer Kip Smith. He had a long of 54 yards and four of his kicks pinned MSU inside its own 20-yard line.
1995 – The last year an OSU defense held a BCS conference school to three-or-fewer points, when it beat OU 12-0.
5 – Number of Cowboys who earned their first career starts on Saturday: defensive ends Jimmy Bean and Tyler Johnson, linebacker Ryan Simmons, guard Travis Cross and receiver Jhajuan Seales.
