Just a couple of months after Oral Roberts University's miraculous run to the Sweet 16, the school's athletic department is getting some upgrades.
It comes as several academic buildings on campus are also getting new looks and others are being built.
"Our focus is we want to kind of modernize the campus here and modernize some of the buildings," said Tim Johnson, Athletic Director.
Johnson says his department is undertaking several projects including a new athletic center, a new sports medicine area, basketball lounge, and locker room, and both interior and exterior renovations to the Mabee Center. All of it is being made possible by donors, and all of it is debt-free.
“The support to the University's been phenomenal even before the Sweet 16 and then after our Sweet 16 run it's been really humbling to see the support across the country," said Johnson.
Johnson says he anticipates the improvements will help with recruitment and also give current student-athletes more resources.
“It incredibly upgrades our strength and conditioning facilities, our academic facilities, basketball operations,” said Johnson. “It'll give each basketball program men and women their own facility, their own space, their own time."
It's not just athletics seeing a facelift on campus, an even bigger campaign is happening at ORU called “Whole Leaders for the Whole World”. First announced in 2019, the campaign is bringing a new welcome center, library, media arts center, new dorms, and a new cafeteria.

Existing buildings are also transitioning to more blue and less gold.
"We're really looking at this color scheme that's really going to modernize the campus here and give it some pop," said Johnson.
Renovations on the Mabee Center should be complete by November when basketball season starts.
