Highs Thursday will reach the lower to mid-90s with a sunshine and cloud mix. We’ll see lower heat values today with afternoon highs near normal and heat indices in the upper 90s to 103.

Heat and humidity remain the primary concerns with heat index values approaching 110 to 115 Friday and Saturday.

A few additional storms may occur later Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, especially near or north of the metro area. The likelihood of storms increases this weekend across the northern part of the state, followed by a slight decrease in heat and humidity on Sunday.

What will the weather be like in Oklahoma on Thursday, June 27?

A weak wave will move out of the Rockies and brush the northern edge of the mid-level ridge this afternoon and tonight bringing a few showers and storms across the far northern Oklahoma.

Highs 6/27/2024

Higher probabilities will persist to the northwest and north of the immediate area. There is still a possibility for a few strong to severe storms, although the likelihood of storm activity remains low.

Thurs Storm Zone

What are the storm chances this weekend in Oklahoma?

Early Friday morning, a few residual showers or storms may linger near or east of the area before the ridge shifts eastward and slightly northward. Locations near and south of I-40 are expected to be under the ridge influence over the weekend.

However, areas to the north, including the Tulsa metro, will stay on the northern edge, where another surface front will try to move into the region on Saturday and early Sunday morning. This, along with a stronger flow to the north, will introduce additional storms into northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas, primarily Saturday night into Sunday.

Sat PM Rain

Some data indicate the boundary may be close enough to initiate a few storms on Saturday, but the higher chances will come by evening through Sunday morning to midday.

With the anticipated heat and humidity from Friday into Saturday, the environment will be conducive to strong to severe storms, with damaging winds as the primary concern.

Sunday Rain

High temperatures on Sunday are expected to stay in the lower 90s, with a decrease in some heat index values.

What will the weather be like next week in Oklahoma?

The center of the ridge is forecast to be positioned east of the state for several days next week, close enough to induce triple-digit highs and exceptionally high heat index values until Wednesday.

Another system and surface front may be near the area by the end of next week, offering additional storm chances and a decrease in daytime temperatures around the July 4th Holiday period.

  2. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if working outdoors, and take plenty of shade breaks.
  3. No alcohol or caffeine.
  4. If you do not have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space (such as libraries or malls) during the day.
  5. Don’t limit your use of air conditioning.
  6. Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.
  7. Keep a cell phone on you at all times when outdoors, including walking, running daily errands, yard work or sports and physical activity.
