Freezing Conditions Continue Friday, Bringing Slick Roads And Snow

What a snow day it was for many Oklahomans!

From scenic snow-covered landscapes to sledding adventures in neighborhoods with big hills, the snowfall brought joy to many while also creating a challenge for those who had to brave the roads.

Oklahoma City broke record snowfall on Thursday, smashing the old record of 2.0" back in 1977. Some parts of the state received over 8" in places to the south.

News 9 trackers are out in full force this morning, keeping a close watch on road conditions after significant snowfall blanketed the state.

While traffic has been relatively light so far—a promising sign—drivers still need to exercise caution as hazardous conditions persist.

Reports of accidents have been minimal, a testament to the reduced number of vehicles on the roads and the vigilance of drivers. However, for those who must venture out, it’s crucial to stay alert and take it slow. Black ice remains a concern in some areas, especially on bridges and overpasses, while many neighborhood and secondary roads are still blanketed with snow.

If you do need to travel, plan ahead, drive cautiously, and allow extra time to reach your destination safely. Remember, even seemingly clear roads can hide patches of ice, so it's better to err on the side of caution.

Today, temperatures will slowly fall into the mid to upper 20s for low.

This brings sunshine for our Friday and highs above freezing in the 30s, which should help some of the snow melt.

The nine-day forecast hints at a gradual warm-up, with highs reaching the 40s and potentially hitting the 50-degree mark by early next week.
