Overnight showers in northwest Oklahoma are beginning to taper off as we brace for a hot and humid afternoon on Wednesday!

What will the weather be like on Wednesday?

Highs on Wednesday will be in the 90s, with heat index pushing into the upper 90s.

There's a chance for storms Wednesday afternoon and evening in the west. If storms develop, they could produce severe wind and may have some hail.

Wednesday night, we look mostly dry with a slight chance for spotty showers.

What is the weather like the rest of the week?

Thursday will be even hotter, and close to record highs. Heat indices will be in the triple digits.

A stationary boundary will be stalled across northern Oklahoma Thursday afternoon. Near this boundary a few isolated severe storms are possible. Trackers will be on it.

The heat stays with us Friday, and we could even get close to some record highs. Northwest Oklahoma could get lucky with a few isolated showers and storms in the afternoon and evening.

Saturday will be a scorcher! The cold front moves in Sunday. Behind it, a true fall feel!

EMSA HEAT SAFETY TIPS

  1. -HYDRATION is key in preventing heat-related illness. Drink plenty of water or electrolyte replacement drinks several hours before and during long exposure to the summer heat.
  2. Wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if working outdoors, and take plenty of shade breaks.
  3. No alcohol or caffeine.
  4. If you do not have air conditioning, find a cooling station or public space (such as libraries or malls) during the day.
  5. Don’t limit your use of air conditioning.
  6. Use the buddy system if working outdoors and check on elderly neighbors.
  7. Keep a cellphone on you at all times when outdoors, including walking, running daily errands, yard work or sports and physical activity.
