Midwest City Man To Serve 3 Life Sentences For 2017 Triple Murder

A Midwest City man will serve three life sentences after an Oklahoma County jury found him guilty on Friday of three counts of first-degree murder. The week-long trial for Ramon Pugh, 49, came more than six years after the 2017 murders at his home in Midwest City.

The jury took two hours to come back with a guilty verdict. They did not buy Pugh’s testimony that he believed two of the men came to his home to rob him and he shot them in self-defense. None of the victims were armed with guns. The father of one of the victims said justice has finally come six years after losing his son.

Prosecutors laid out their case for the jury during closing arguments Friday afternoon. They said the evidence pointed to Pugh standing at the front door of his Midwest City home and opening fire on the three victims in the living room. Police said two victims were shot multiple times and died instantly from gunshot wounds to the head. One victim was shot once in the shoulder but bled out inside the home. Pugh fled the scene to a home in Spencer. He turned himself in at the Oklahoma County jail a week after the killings. 

Pugh took the stand this week and admitted he fired the gun that killed Donielle Gregory, Derell Barksdale, and his best friend of 30 years Terrance Jackson. Pugh told the court he thought Gregory and Barskdale went to his home to rob him. He also claimed to have accidently shot Jackson, but prosecutors said he did not stay to render aid or call 911.

Police said Pugh sold the murder weapon and attempted to destroy his phone.

Pugh was also found guilty on court four which was felon in possession of a firearm. The jury sentenced him to 20 years for that crime. Pugh’s formal sentencing is set for October 16.
