Construction work continues to make sure Tulsa's BOK Center will be ready for the acts that are being booked. The News On 6's Ashli Sims reports the construction crew at 3rd and Denver has grown to 550 workers. And, the arena is now heated, which means folks are working around the clock.
On the surface, the BOK Center may seem like a slumbering giant. But, a trip inside shows the arena is awake and alive with activity.
"The construction as you can probably see is entering a new phase now. The building is heated. The building is water-tight. The outside elements are now not affecting us," said construction director Bob Eggleston.
The ice storm did affect them, slowing down work for weeks.
"With the ice storm, with the weather in Oklahoma it's been so unpredictable to plan things. But, now the elements are outside and we're inside," said construction director Bob Eggleston.
Now ice is a sign of progress with the ice floor going in next week. And, with heat now flowing, crews are working on filling out dozens of luxury suites.
"We're on schedule to open in time. The site is actually open 22 hours a day, so we have trades working at night," said construction director Bob Eggleston.
From the top floor, you can start to imagine Tulsa's new premier stage.
"I've probably walked every part of this arena and I haven't found a bad seat yet," said construction director Bob Eggleston.
Despite all of the progress, Bob Eggleston says he won't feel accomplished until the stage is finally set and the seats are filled.
"Ya know the sense of accomplishment will be when have a singer singing down there on the stage. That's when I'll know we've done what we said we were going to do. And, we're on schedule for that," said construction director Bob Eggleston.
Of course there's plenty of construction going on at the arena, but anyone driving downtown knows there's plenty going on outside the arena, too.
And, it appears road work along a stretch of 3rd between Denver and Frisco should be finished in another week.
