Glenda Reflects On Her Career

News On 6 Anchor, Glenda Silvey, has spent more than 20 years delivering the folks of Green Country their news, but she will soon embark on a new journey. Take a look back at her KOTV career.

TULSA, OK - News On 6 anchor Glenda Silvey has spent more than 20 years serving the people of Green Country with the latest breaking news, investigative reports and feature stories.

Now, Glenda has announced her plans to embark on a new career with The University of Oklahoma.

Glenda currently anchors The News On 6 at noon. She joined the station in 1985 as noon news anchor and eventually co-anchored the 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 newscasts until 1997, when she resigned to teach English at Carver Middle School.

Glenda returned to KOTV in 1999 and covered education and the arts until assuming anchor duties for the noon newscast in January 2002.

As Glenda reflects on her career, several stories stand out as some of her favorites:

"Take Me Back to Tulsa: A Farewell to the Texas Playboys"

  • "This was a three-part series turned into a documentary. Photojournalist Curt Maslanka and I documented the retirement and farewell concert of the surviving original members of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys," said Glenda.

"A Dance of Memories"

  • "Again, paired with photojournalist Curt Maslanka. We produced a series and documentary on Tulsa Ballet co-founders Moscelyne Larkin and Roman Jasinski, some of their Ballet Russe colleagues and the founding of Tulsa Ballet. It was produced to coincide with Tulsa Ballet's resurrection of a lost Balanchine ballet," said Glenda.  Glenda says she has enjoyed having the opportunity to cover the arts in Tulsa and Oklahoma.

"In the Footsteps of Jesus"

  • "A series produced in Israel with photojournalist Steve Kanicka, documenting the partial history of Jesus of Nazareth," said Glenda.

The "Spirit of Oklahoma" series

  • This series focused on outstanding Oklahomans over several years.

Glenda has done many stories during her time at KOTV. Along with the ones previously mentioned, she also remembers the tragedy of the Oklahoma City bombing as she and Terry Hood reported from the scene.

Glenda is thankful to have had the opportunity to work with, "the many remarkably talented photojournalists employed at KOTV over the years" and "learning the ropes from long-time KOTV news anchor Clayton Vaughn."

Glenda is the recipient of numerous awards for feature and news reporting. The Tulsa Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television named her "Best TV Reporter" in its 2001 Best of Broadcast Awards. She is recipient of the Newsmaker Award from the Tulsa Chapter of Women in Communications and the Harwelden Award from the Arts and Humanities Council for coverage of the arts.

Glenda has served a number of community organizations including the Tulsa City-County Library and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She is a board member of the Foundation for Tulsa Schools and the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
