The National Weather Service said Tuesday that Florence dumped more than 8 trillion gallons of water on North Carolina. More than 1,000 roads remain closed in the state, and flooding could get worse. 

Rapidly intensifying Hurricane Florence could strike a direct and dangerous blow anywhere from the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic region later this week.
