The battle between the mid-level ridge and the storm system near and north of the state will play-out for the next few days.  The ridge eventually wins.  But there will be some scattered showers and storms brushing the northern sections of the state into southeastern Kansas for the next few days. 

The main upper level low responsible for the active weather yesterday will finally pinwheel away from the state later this afternoon and evening bringing very pleasant conditions into northeast Oklahoma Tuesday.

An odd thing has happened in wheat country — a lot of farmers aren’t planting wheat.

The Army told Congress on Tuesday that it will allow the $3.8 billion Dakota Access oil pipeline to cross under a Missouri River reservoir in North Dakota, completing the disputed four-state project which has sparked multiple protests. However, construction could still be delayed because the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, which has led opposition to the pipeline, said it would fight the latest development.

The head of the company building the Dakota Access oil pipeline said Friday that it won’t be rerouted but that he’d like to meet with the head of an American Indian tribe to try to ease the tribe’s concerns about the project. 

A vast field of shale rock in West Texas could yield 20 billion barrels of oil, making it the largest source of shale oil the U.S. Geological Survey has ever assessed, agency officials said.
