GLENPOOL, Oklahoma -- A Glenpool pastor spends considerable time on Facebook every day – and he's not wasting time. Hope Church Pastor Gary Davis says spending time on the social media website helps him connect with members of his church or with people who might become members.
He also keeps up with former president George W. Bush through his Facebook page.
Rick Wells: "So you are facebook friends with the former president?"
Gary Davis: "Yes."
Rick Wells: "You and thousands of other people."
Gary Davis: "That's right."
Here's the deal - at one of his stopovers at the former prez's page he saw this: "Decision Points," Mr. Bush's memoir will come out soon, and along with that a special offer - send them five questions you'd like to ask the former president.
"Stating that you had an opportunity to interview President Bush about his book before he released it," Davis said.
"I thought of the questions very quickly," Davis said. "I was afraid I'd put it off and forget. I just took what I genuinely would have asked him."
Here's what he sent:
He was curious about Bush's reaction to 9/11, about his support for the AIDS initiative in Africa, unpublicized visits to wounded soldiers, federal aid to the Gulf coast in advance of Katrina, and finally - about his relationship with Billy Graham.
"Those were my five questions," Glenpool Pastor Gary Davis of Hope Church said.
And those question were good enough to get him into the top 100 - out of several thousand. Next step, a two minute video. The top five of those will be posted, and Facebook friends will pick a winner by next week.
Rick Wells: "They're not wasting any time."
Gary Davis: "No they're not."
What are his chances? There's Hope. We'll keep an eye out and let you know if Pastor Davis makes the top five, and how you can vote for him if he does.
