OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nearly 10 years ago, flight instructor Matt Cole was a passenger in a plane when it crashed in Florida and burst into flames. Cole was badly burned.
Cole underwent several surgeries and was told he might never walk, or fly, again.
"I had to learn to walk again. I had to learn how to eat. I couldn't eat with my hands they were in such bad shape," said Cole.
Cole was also determined to fly again. After a year of practice, he recently returned to the air for an FAA standardization flight so he could regain his solo license.
"It's hard to put into words. I don't think there's enough adjectives in a thesaurus to describe what it was like getting back up again," said Cole.
Cole must still work toward getting his instructor certification back.
