TULSA, Oklahoma – Trey Watts has football in his blood. The problem last year was that the football wasn’t in his hands much. He scored three touchdowns in his first college season, but only rushed for 197 yards.
He had to get better, and he has.
“He’s really improved his speed,” said head coach Bill Blankenship. “He’s night and day from when he got here as a true freshman.”
Watts has caught his teammate’s attention in the first few spring workouts. His dedication to picking up speed and agility in his running, has made him tougher to bring down out of the backfield.
“Those agility drills are really paying off from the offseason,” smiled quarterback G.J. Kinne. “He’s looking great.”
In Saturday’s scrimmage, the sophomore made defenders miss in the open field a few times. He caught passes out of the backfield and ran between the tackles on draw plays.
Tulsa’s annual Spring Game is set for April 15th at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
