OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Hugo man faces first degree murder charges in the death of an elderly woman.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, murder charges were filed against 26-year-old Kelvin Knight of Hugo. Investigators say 76-year-old Willie Bell Gill, also of Hugo, was found stabbed to death inside her rural home on June 16.
The medical examiner's office believes she was murdered either late Monday, June 13, or early Tuesday, June 14. Her car was found abandoned and burned on June 15, near Bokchito.
Early in the investigation, a warrant for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon was issued against Knight of Hugo for assaulting his girlfriend. The U.S. Marshals arrested Knight at an Oklahoma City motel early Saturday morning.
Evidence and information collected during the investigation led investigators to Knight as the suspect in Gill's murder. Knight was seen with items believed stolen from Gill's home. A witness also saw him driving Gill's car.
Earlier this week, an OSBI matched a palm print to Knight found at a point of entry into Gill's home.
A felony warrant for first degree murder was filed on Tuesday on Knight. He is booked into the Choctaw County Jail.
