SHATTUCK, Oklahoma -- The Shattuck Indians (9-0, 6-0) stand alone on top of the 8-man football world.

With their 40-14 win over the Goodwell Eagles (2-6, 0-5), the Indians now have the longest winning streak ever in 8-man football with 91 wins.

The community, which consists of just over 1,200 residents, has been rallying behind their high school football team for years, but admits this year’s achievement is special.

“We have the championship before this that have been really big items, but this, to me, is like the grand finale,” Shattuck resident Anita Emmons said. “This is the national records we’re going for tonight.”

Shattuck has not lost a game since 2002 when they lost to Pond Creek-Hunter in the Oklahoma state semifinals.

The team came into Friday’s game feeling the pressure to win, to give their town national bragging rights and bring the title to the program’s past players who have also worked to reach the 91st win.

“Here lately, we’ve been thinking about it a lot,” senior running back Brent Starbuck said. “We really wanted to make all the other past senior classes proud, and we hope we were able to do that tonight.”

With that goal taken care of, the Indians now turn to their run for a seventh straight Class C title.

Head coach Troy Bullard said he’s relieved to have the win, but is now shifting his focus to another state championship.

“We still have things to do,” Bullard said.

The Shattuck Indians will travel to Buffalo in their last game of the regular season November 6.
