MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma—Muskogee High School football coach Matt Hennesy has reportedly been relieved of his coaching duties.
According to the Muskogee Phoenix, Muskogee Public Schools Superintendent Mike Garde “felt like a change in direction was needed” and Monday afternoon MHS athletic director Bobby Jefferson informed Hennesy of his firing.
Muskogee went 5-6 this season and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Union 56-7.
Hennesy was hired in 2003 as a defensive coordinator and assistant head coach under former head coach Ron Lancaster. Later in 2005, Hennesy took over as head coach for the Roughers.
Last season Muskogee went 3-6 on the year, their last winning season record came in 2008-2009 when they finished 7-4.
