Brian Moss Golf Tourney Continues 9/11 Hero's Life Of Service

SKIATOOK, Oklahoma -- Though Petty Officer First Class Brian Moss died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, his life of service continues through the memorial golf tournament that bears his name.

Moss was killed when a hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon ten years ago. The Sperry native left behind a close knit family, including first cousin and tournament director Scot Smith.

Family members wanted to get together and remember Brian during a day on the links. They soon decided to sponsor a tournament raising funds to send a deserving high school senior to college or technical school.

"The criteria aren't quite as strict as a lot of scholarships," Smith said. "It has more to do with service."

Pat Moss, Brian's mother, was on hand Saturday at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Skiatook.

She spoke of her son and how he loved being in the United States Navy. He had just moved into the Pentagon in July when he began working for the Chief of Navy Operations.

"He loved serving his country," she said. "Besides his family, it was number one."
