McAlester Couple Jailed After Baby's Death

MCALESTER, Oklahoma -- A McAlester couple is in the Pittsburg County Jail following the death of their 2-month-old baby.

Brandin Lee Short, 32, and Rebekah D. Short, 28, were arrested for felony child neglect as well as several drug-related complaints.

According to documents filed by Pittsburgh County District Attorney Farley Ward, officers searched the Shorts' home during the investigation of the infant's death at the residence on September 21.

The Shorts were charged with felony child neglect by failing to protect their child from the exposure to manufacturing a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

The Shorts also had a 1-year-old child in the home, Ward said.

Cherokee Ballard with the Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office said the infant's cause of death is still under investigation.
