BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma -- A 63-year-old Santa Fe caboose is on display at the Bartlesville Depot. It was brought into town early Wednesday on a lowboy trailer accompanied by a "caboose convoy" of trucks, cranes and police cars.

The caboose was placed at the end of a 200-foot display track where its exterior will be sandblasted, repaired and repainted.

Caboose No. 99969 has spent the last 28 years in the back yard of Walter Aday, a retired Santa Fe conductor. Aday was in charge of many freight trains that passed through Bartlesville during his career.

It was purchased for the city by donations to the Locomotive No. 940 fund managed by the Bartlesville Community Foundation.

The caboose made its way to Bartlesville in a 90-mile journey after being held overnight at the Taylor Crane and Rigging equipment yard in Coffeyville, Kansas. The crane company loaded the caboose on the trailer and unloaded it into its new Bartlesville home.
