TULSA, Oklahoma – University of Tulsa defensive back Milton Howell has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after tying a school record in the Golden Hurricane's win over SMU.
The senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, tied school and conference records with three interceptions for 44 return yards in Tulsa's 38-7 win over SMU.
Howell tallied three solo tackles and one stop for -4 yards along with one pass breakup as the Golden Hurricane defense held the Mustangs to 265 yards of total offense.
Howell's first interception at the Tulsa 45-yard line was returned 35 yards to the SMU 20 and led to a 10-0 Tulsa lead in the first quarter. His next two interceptions came in the second quarter.
So far this season Howell has totaled 37 tackles, including 29 solos, four interceptions for 44 return yards, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
Tulsa now hits the road to face UCF at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3. The game will be televised by CBS SN.
