NEW YORK CITY – The five finalists for the 2011 Heisman Trophy were announced Monday, and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden was not among those selected.

The five finalists are Robert Griffin III from Baylor, Trent Richardson from Alabama, Andrew Luck from Stanford, Montee Ball from Wisconsin and Tyrann Mathieu from LSU. Those five will be invited to New York City, where the trophy will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Weeden briefly was considered a Heisman frontrunner, but his chances took a hit when OSU fell in double overtime to Iowa State in the team's only loss of the season.

Weeden finished the regular season with 4,328 passing yards, which ranked third in the nation, ahead of both Griffin and Luck. However, Griffin led the nation in quarterback rating and Luck was No. 5, with Weeden ranking No. 11.

Since 1989, quarterbacks have won the Heisman 14 times and running backs have won it six times – one of which was later vacated. Tyrann Mathieu has the potential to become the first defensive player to win the award since Charles Woodson in 1997.
