The Oklahoma State Cowgirls picked up another conference win Friday with a 2-1 victory over Iowa State.
OSU senior Julie Ward connected on a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to help the Cowgirls win.
The Cyclones scored first in the top of the second. Dalyn Varela connected for a double to score Evan Folks all the way from first base.
Iowa State hurler Tori Torrescano held the Cowgirl batters in check throughout the first four innings, allowing just three hits as OSU stranded six runners on base.
But a strong sixth inning by OSU turned the game in their favor. Shelby Davis led off with a grounder to third base and beat the throw. One out later Tamara Brown hit a grounder that bounced off the glove of second baseman Sara Davison. Ward followed with her double off the left-center field wall, scoring both baserunners. It was the 45th double of Ward's career which ranks her third in school history.
The Cowgirls (19-16 overall, 3-6 Big 12) and Cyclones (12-26, 1-9) will continue the series with a game Saturday at 1 pm, moved up from the originally scheduled time of 3 pm.
