OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City couple is warning others who drive SUVs to be aware of a bizarre brand of theft.
Rick and Wendy Groshong say their GMC Yukon was broken into early Sunday. Thieves smashed the rear driver's side passenger window to get in, but the only thing that was taken was the third-row passenger seats.
The Groshongs say when they looked online to see if this was some sort of trend, they found that police departments all over the U.S. have sent out crime alerts about this.
Also, the Groshongs say they found dozens of third-row seats on sale on Craigslist and EBay.
Wendy Groshong says one way she's learned SUV owners can protect themselves against this type of theft is to anchor the third-row seats to the floor, using a thick bicycle lock or thick wire.
Another way to protect yourself is to yank the third-row seat out yourself and keep it in your garage or just keep the vehicle in the garage.
