Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has come to terms with its first round pick, Perry Jones III, on a rookie contract agreement.
Jones averaged 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds as a sophomore for Baylor last season, helping to lead the Bears to only the fourth Elite 8 appearance in school history. Those numbers earned Jones a spot on the Second-Team All-Big 12 and AP All-American Honorable Mention.
The 6-foot-11 forward said he is excited for his opportunity.
"What's better than learning from one of the best teams? They were in the finals. They have great players, great coach. This is just an opportunity for me to grow."
Jones was thought to be a lottery pick by many draft experts, but concerns over a knee issue may have scared some teams away. That didn't deter OKC, as Presti explains, Jones' potential outweighs the risk.
"With our team, I think the fact that he is a team guy first and understands team dynamics and how to play, we see that as a huge plus. It was one of the reasons we were so excited about having him."
The Thunder opens up NBA Summer League play Monday, July 9th at noon against the Celtics.
