Cushing, Glencoe Residents Clean Up After Wildfires

People in Cushing had to evacuate quickly this weekend as a fast-moving wildfire jumped fire lines and city streets. Cushing residents are just beginning the monumental task of cleaning up.

Firefighters tell News 9 they believe between 10 to 15 homes burned down this weekend, and that does not include barns and other structures.

Insurance Agents were also on scene Monday, helping homeowners who've lost pretty much everything.

"I don't need to dwell on it or I'll breakdown," said Jerry Cargil, who lost a his home.

The fire in Cushing is 90 percent contained, but families are cleaning up without electricity and water.

Neighbors in Glencoe are also surveying the destruction.

The 6000 acre fire burned just south of town, forcing the evacuation of all 600 residents.

We spoke to a man who lose three barns- but managed to savage his home by dousing it with water before he had to get out.

He says he's getting help from community members tonight.

"That's the way the whole state is…taking care of people," Alan Wolf said.

17 were destroyed in Glencoe this weekend.
