The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is teaming up with agents of the ABLE Commission and Tulsa Police to go after people who violate DUI and other related laws through New Years Eve.

"This combined special emphasis will mirror last year's operation in an attempt to garner the same outcome, which was no traffic collisions during the time of the operation," said OHP Lt. George Brown.

The crackdown begins Thursday evening and lasts until approximately 3:00 a.m. New Years Day.

Lt. Brown says ABLE agents will work to ensure state alcoholic beverage laws are adhered to inside drinking establishments and TPD officers will work with the OHP to target high collision and DUI areas such as I-44, I-244 and U.S. Highways 75 and 169.

"Our goal is simple, arrest as many DUI offenders as we can...to make Tulsa a safe place to spend the holiday," OHP Lt. George Brown said.

The OHP is encouraging people celebrating the New Year to plan safe celebrations which include designated drivers, hotel stays, taxi cab rentals or other means of sober transportation.
