A retired American Airlines MD-80 airplane was moved from storage at Tulsa International Airport to the Tulsa Air and Space Museum Friday.

TASM's Kim Jones says the plane has been in Hangar 31 for three years. Jones says American Airlines donated the plane to TASM in 2010.

Friday, the plane was moved to a ramp next to the museum and a crane lifted the jet onto the museum's tarmac.

Jones says crews will remove the jet's wheels and Saturday the crane will lift the MD-80 again and place it on specially-built piers.

Jones says TASM will spend the rest of the year renovating the inside of the jet and adding several exhibits.

TASM plans on leaving the MD-80's first class section intact as part of the permanent display.
