Tornado Watch Issued For Eastern Oklahoma

Strong to severe thunderstorms are a possibility across a wide area of Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon and evening as well as the early hours of Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 11 p.m. for most of eastern Oklahoma.

• WASHINGTON

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says conditions late Wednesday afternoon will be favorable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds and possibly tornadoes.

Crone expects more thunderstorms to form across western Oklahoma in the afternoon and move into central Oklahoma by early evening.

As the storms move east, Crone says thunderstorms producing heavy rain and hail will be a big threat from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday for most of eastern Oklahoma.

Once the storms pass, Crone says colder air will filter into northeast Oklahoma Thursday with the possibility of temperatures near freezing by Friday morning.
