Owasso Deputy Police Chief Scott Chambless has been promoted to the city's top police job. City Manager Rodney Ray named Chambless as the city's new police chief on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

"Scott brings a level of knowledge and diversity to the department. His credentials and educational experience are foundational but his character will guide him and the Owasso Police Department to make Owasso a good and safe investment for all businesses, residents and visitors," said Rodney Ray.

Chambless served as Deputy Chief for the past nine years.

Prior to Owasso, Chambless served with the Hugo and Okmulgee Police Departments. Later, he was a criminal justice instructor at Central Tech in Sapulpa followed by coordinating and instructing criminal justice and police science at Rogers State University.

"The City of Owasso is faced with a unique opportunity to maintain a low crime rate for many years into the future. This important goal can be achieved by a collaborative relationship with the Owasso Police Department and citizens, small business owners, corporate partners, schools, and religious institutions. Strategies that help significantly reduce neighborhood deterioration coupled with a proactive problem solving Police Department will greatly impact the future of crime prevention. I am confident that the staff of the Owasso Police Department are up to this challenge, further, I am confident in the willingness of our community partners to assist in all of aspects of keeping Owasso safe," said Chief Scott Chambless.

He replaces Dan Yancey, who stepped down in January to become the city manager of Skiatook.
