Seven children were killed Monday when an EF-5 tornado slammed into the elementary school, destroying the building and leaving students, teachers and staff buried under piles of debris. All the victims were third-grade students.

The chief said search efforts across the affected areas will likely be "down staged" later today, and the number of emergency responders on scene will be greatly reduced.

Monday's tornado killed 24 people, including nine children.
