Volunteers are needed to help break a world record and bring awareness to the Alzheimer's epidemic. Groups and individuals can help "Strike Out Alzheimer's" by pitching in from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at ONEOK Field.
Volunteers are asked to come out and throw a baseball in an attempt to break the record for the most pitches before a game. It's a chance to set a positive world record and raise awareness of Alzheimer's.
"We're breaking world records all the time with Alzheimer's," said Lindsay Jordan, development direction at the Alzheimer's Association in Tulsa.
"One world record we're breaking is that right now there are 5 million people in the U.S. living with Alzheimer's Disease, and by 2050, there are estimated to be 15 million. The incidences are also rising 68 percent in the last few years - while other major disease are decreasing.

"We want to break a world record that's positive, and we have a fantastic relationship with the Drillers."
An Alabama baseball team holds the current record of 11,600 first pitches. The attempt to break that record begins tonight with some little leaguers and junior ROTC members camping out at ONEOK Field overnight to get the pitching started. Groups of 10 or more are welcome to join them for the chaperoned lock in.
Then other volunteers are needed to "pitch in" starting at 8 a.m. and going through 4 p.m.
The Drillers game begins at 7 p.m., and the team will be in purple uniform to honor Alzheimer's sufferers.
Another chance to help is to take part in the Walk To End Alzheimer's on Saturday, August 24 at CityPlex Towers.
