Police have obtained an arrest warrant for the son of a man found dead July 23 in southeast Oklahoma City.
James Canaday, 57, was killed in the 400 block of S.E. 55th Street. He'd been shot, at close range, in the face and neck with a shotgun.
During their investigation, police zeroed in on the victim's son, Jeffrey Scott Canaday, as a suspect. He lived with his father. Family and witnesses told investigators Jeffrey was "crazy" and had threatened to kill his father in the past.
A neighbor told police she'd seen James the day before the murder. She said he ran to her car, banged on her window, and begged for help. Moments later, the neighbor saw Jeffrey come out of the house with a gun in his hand. She said James yelled that he'd called the police, and Jeffrey walked back to the house.
James also told another of his sons that he was afraid to sleep because Jeffrey would attack him while he was in bed. James also said he would awaken to find Jeffrey standing over him, holding a knife.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Jeffrey Canaday on a first-degree murder charge.
Jeffrey Canaday is known to frequent the Watonga area, but he also spends a lot of time in Fort Worth, Texas. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should immediately call 911.
