A Claremore man was charged Thursday with driving under the influence and child endangerment after a crash last month that severely injured a motorcyclist.
According to court documents, Angel Andrew Morales, 22, had six people with him in his Cadillac Escalade, including three children, when he had a collision with someone on a motorcycle on August 20. The crash happened near Highway 20 and Seminole Avenue.
Police said Morales made an improper left turn at an intersection, right in front of the motorcyclist who was going in the other direction.
Firefighters who responded to the crash told police the motorcyclist had no bone structure left below the knee on his left leg and that he would likely lose it.
The motorcyclist was identified as Bradley Wilkerson of Tulsa.
A Claremore Police lieutenant who responded to the crash reported Morales smelled of alcohol and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. According to the arrest report, Morales admitted to police he had smoked marijuana and drank beer earlier that day.
Police say the three kids in the car with 3, 5, and 7 years old. The 7-year-old's grandmother told police the day after the wreck she was taking the boy to be checked out at the hospital, that he'd had been complaining of headaches and dizziness since the accident, according to the arrest report.
Morales is charged with one count of DUI - causing great bodily injury, three counts of child endangerment by DUI and driving without a valid license.
