More attractions are bringing more visitors to downtown Tulsa, and that's fueling plans for a new downtown hotel.
A Tulsa-based hotel company signed a letter of intent to acquire a piece of property downtown, getting the ball rolling on a $1.9 million deal.
If it comes to fruition, it would be the second hotel to open in this section of the city in less than a year.
"They definitely need more hotels down here," said Kevin Pittser.
He was just one of many people who packed into downtown Tulsa hotel rooms this weekend.
"Being here close within walking distance, it'd be real important," visitor Jeannie Stover said.
That demand has developers at Promise Hotels looking to buy a piece of property near ONEOK Field. Promise Hotels said it plans to develop part of a one-square block area in the Brady Arts District.
The Fairfield Inn opened a few blocks away last year.
"It's just been an incredible ride. I mean, this area has developed so quickly," said Fairfield Inn's general manager, Steve Fischer.
Fischer said the hotel is all booked up this weekend.
"We're in a very good place, considering the brief amount of time that we've been open," he said.
The Tulsa Chamber of Commerce said a new hotel is exciting, and the city is nearing $3.25 billion being spent on downtown projects.
"That's an incredible number for a community of our size, so you can see the heart and interest of our community and reinvesting down here," said Delise Tomlinson, with the Tulsa Chamber.
The visitors we talked to are convinced there's enough action downtown to build a new hotel.
"You can see all the people that are down here. I'm sure there's a lot of them from out of town, and if they're staying in a hotel right now, I'm sure they're driving five to 10 miles to get down here," Pittser said
Promise Hotels said it could be several months it completes its assessments and announces a date to break ground. The hotel brand is being kept a secret, for now.
