A gunman walked into Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport Friday morning and opened fire at a security checkpoint, killing a Transportation Security Administration officer and wounding multiple other officers, law enforcement sources tell CBS News.
The information was preliminary and could change as the incident is investigated.
Law enforcement sources tell CBS News the suspect was wounded in the incident but survived and is in custody.
Authorities believe the event is not widespread and is over.
The suspect entered the terminal carrying a rifle and wearing military-like clothing when he opened fire.
A gun is seen on the ground inside Los Angeles International Airport following a shooting Nov. 1, 2013.
CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports that the suspect approached the checkpoint and shot a TSA officer, according to a law enforcement source.
Aerial video showed what appeared to be a TSA employee being wheeled away into an ambulance by police.
Several people were seen being treated by emergency responders outside the terminal, but it's unclear if they are gunshot victims.
Passenger Robert Perez told CBS Los Angeles that TSA agents came through the terminal and yelled that a man had a gun.
"I heard popping and everybody dropped to the ground," Perez said.
The airport announced on its Twitter feed that flight operations were temporarily held except for arriving flights.
