Firefighters have knocked down a large grass fire that threatened a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood.

The fire started in a field at 2400 N.W. 192nd Street near Danforth Road between May and Penn Avenues around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. The grass fire quickly fueled by the high winds moved into a new housing addition called "Skyler's Court." The fire burned up to and in the back yards of several homes. Firefighters are still on scene watching for hot spots and any rekindling near the homes. Several fences and backyards burned, but so far, the homes have been spared.

The fire line move to the northeast toward the neighborhood. The OKC Fire Department called for more resources to help get this fire line knocked down.

As a precaution, students who live in the La Sonata and Skyler's Court neighborhoods in Edmond were not bused home due to grass fires in those areas. Edmond Public Schools ask that parents of students who attend Frontier Elementary and who live in those neighborhoods to pick up their child/children at the school. All students are safe.
