Tulsa Police said officers shot and killed a man at an apartment building near 11th and Rockford early Wednesday.

Sergeant Dave Walker with the Tulsa Police Department said just before 1 a.m. police received ten calls from different people who said they heard gunshots in the 1100 block of South Rockford Avenue.

Walker said officers arrived at the two-story building just after 1:00 a.m. and heard shots inside the building. He said officers called for assistance and as they were getting set up, they say the suspect inside an upstairs apartment.

They saw a white male in his early 20s holding a rifle in a window. They say they heard the man mumbling, but couldn't understand what he was saying.

Officers said they could hear the suspect pulling the trigger on a weapon that was unloaded.

Walker says the window was open and officers saw the man appear with a shotgun. He said the man fired one round outside the window and was looking around when an officer fired, killing the suspect.

Walker said at this time there is not much known about the suspect and they are attempting to notify more family before they release his name.

The name of the officer has not been released.
