It's not every day Oklahoma State fans actively root against an orange-and-black clad school with "OSU" emblazoned across its chest but that was certainly the case late Monday night and the end result was a welcomed one for the Cowboys.
In Monday night's UC Irvine vs. Oregon State winner-take-all regional finale, Irvine was able to knock off the Beavers for a second time in two days by a score of 4-2.
Here's where things get good if you're an OSU fan — of the Oklahoma variety, that is.
Thanks to Irvine's massive upset, the Cowboys no longer have to face the national No. 1-seed Beavers in Corvallis, Ore. Oregon State became the first top national seed to fall on the opening weekend of the tournament since Vanderbilt in 2007.
That's a huge plus if your Josh Holliday's team.
Even better news, perhaps, is that as a result of Oregon State's early exit from the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma State is the high seed and will get to host UC Irvine for the first Super Regional in Stillwater since 1999.
Oklahoma State had no such drama in its opening weekend, winning all three of its games to advance to the Super Regional. The Cowboys are 48-16 on the season, while UC Irvine is 38-23.
And Oregon State's loss capped a wild first round that saw five of the top eight national seeds knocked out of the tournament.
The winner of the upcoming best-of-three series between the Cowboys and Anteaters will be Omaha bound for the College World Series.
The school's have only faced off on one previous occasion, with OSU beating Irvine 4-3 in 1979.
The game times are expected to be released Tuesday morning.
