Opponent Quits Race, Ballard To Be Craig-Mayes-Rogers County DA

Republican Matt Ballard will become the district attorney for Craig, Mayes and Rogers counties after his Democratic opponent announced plans to quit the race.

In a news release, Democrat Robert Post said, "Like many who live in our district, I was concerned by the dysfunction of several of the leaders and offices. I filed to give the people the choice of a different direction."

Post said he decided to drop out because there's been a primary election and there appears to be broad support for Ballard.

"Accordingly, I will not be actively pursuing the position of District Attorney and I will be withdrawing my candidacy," he said.

On his campaign's Facebook page, Ballard thanked his supporters. "This has been a hard fought election and it's now time to join together in the pursuit of justice for our citizens. I also want to thank Mr. Post and his willingness to step aside."

Ballard defeated incumbent Janice Steidley and Erin Oquin in the Republican primary in June, finishing with 61% of the vote.
