A Bixby resident tracked down the person who reportedly stole his truck right out of his driveway.
Ben Bailey said he knew he made a big mistake by leaving his keys in his truck to run inside his house, but he reacted on instinct when he came out and realized what happened.
Bailey said he and his friend and his girlfriend hopped in another vehicle and followed the thieves.
“Me and my buddy pulled into my driveway, and I went inside to go get my girlfriend,” Bailey said. “Heard my truck start [as] soon as I walked in the door, ran outside and all I could see were my tail lights and my wheels spinning out of my driveway.”
They followed the truck more than 16 miles – from 131st Street and Sheridan Road to Admiral Boulevard and Memorial Drive, where the passenger bailed, Bailey said.
He called police while in pursuit and TPD eventually pulled the truck over at Latimer and Yale Avenues.
Jesse Thompson is the suspected car thief, and he has been booked into the Tulsa County jail on several complaints. Court records show he is a convicted felon.
TPD said they found a gun in the truck when it was recovered, and it is believed to be Thompson's.
