Speaking to the media on Monday, Mike Gundy announced quarterback J.W. Walsh will continue to wear a walking boot and a decision on his status will be made on Tuesday. The junior was injured in the first quarter of Saturday's 40-23 win against Missouri State.
According to sources within the Cowboy program, Walsh is out indefinitely with an undisclosed foot injury and could potentially miss a significant amount of time.
Early indications point to Walsh being sidelined anywhere from 6-10 weeks but that timeframe is not confirmed.
Contrary to other reports, sources indicate Walsh's foot is not broken.
Walsh suffered the injury late in the first quarter on an eight-yard run down to the 2 but stayed in the game for the next two plays, both of which were handoffs to Rennie Childs, the latter resulting in a touchdown. Walsh was taken to the locker room after the drive and later returned on crutches.
In the meantime, the starting job appears to be Daxx Garman's. The Arizona transfer completed 16-of-26 passes for 244 yards with two touchdowns with no interceptions after coming in for Walsh on Saturday. It was Garman's first playing time in a game since his junior year at Jones (Okla.) High School in 2009.
Highly-recruited true freshman Mason Rudolph could also enter the discussion.
We will update this story as soon as new information becomes available.
